I blame the heat that makes clothes go skimpy and hormones go wild, but July always seems feverish to me.

We are already hotheaded as a people, but as soon as July pokes its head around the corner, you can tell the difference—taste it in the air. Suddenly traffic is louder, with everyone quick to blare the horn at the world or the pedestrian taking his time to cross the road. The cafés are bustling with people soaking in the sun, and couples are making out everywhere you look.

The phones ring of the hook—exes looking for someone to share a weekend getaway, bosses yelling about deadlines they need met, and friends sharing sordid details from the night before.

And the beaches… The beaches seem about to sink under the weight of people looking to have fun and let their primal side out to play. Sweaty bodies going from the water to the bar to the nightclub, stolen looks, lingering touches, infectious laughter. Strangers become friends, lovers for a night or more, all chasing the sun, the sea, July, youth.

It’s like the universe itself is in a creative fever and births magic. The moon is somehow bigger. The sun brighter. The sea bluer.

But July can be unpredictable. While you’re out enjoying a warm evening, you may be faced with a sudden storm—like the one Lexi and Ric walk into in Magic at Work.

Excerpt

Ric threw some money on the table and rushed after her. He said something as she reached the exit, but Lexi didn’t pause.

She threw the door open and walked out.

Into the rain.

It was one of those sudden storms that give you no warning, no gradual gathering of clouds—nothing. They break out when you least expect them, soaking you to the core and leaving you with only two choices: either return to the safety of indoors, or run and play in them.

Lexi’s choice was made for her when Ric grabbed her arm. “Tried to tell you it was raining.” He took off in a light jog, dragging her with him.

She followed him to the end of the block and then around the corner and into an alley. The rain was loud—so loud, she could barely hear herself laugh. She hadn’t done anything like that since her high school years, when she’d try to coax Angie into following her but always ended up being the only one having to explain her drippy clothes.

She hadn’t cared about her clothes then and she didn’t care now, as Ric turned and pulled her against his body.

He was laughing with such unabashed glee, she just had to kiss him.

For-blog

He was happy. Fucking unbelievably happy.

Lexi was there with him. Living it up, feeling alongside him. Her pink and white outfit was sodden and outlining her lithe body. Her makeup was smudged and her hair plastered to her cheeks, but she’d never looked more beautiful. She was a vision.

He inhaled deeply. Lexi and rain—no better scent on earth.

He turned them so her back was against the wall. She didn’t seem to mind the dirty bricks scraping the back of her white skirt, as she clung to him and he clung to her. Rain ran into his mouth, making their kiss more urgent. He fought for breath but never drew back from her lips for more than fractions of a second.

Her hands were clawing at his jacket, his own roaming her back, trying to raise her top, unzip her skirt. They both moved frantically, but the wet clothes resisted. Lexi was the first to give up trying to work her zipper. She raised her skirt with one hand and used the other and her thighs to climb up his body, then locked her wrists at the back of his neck.

She thought he hated her.

He thought she was too good for him.

Fate proved them both wrong.

On a slow day at work, Lexi Adams discovers an on-line erotic romance novel. Intrigued by the similarities she shares with the heroine, she starts reading and becomes enamored with the leading man. The problem is, she’s only able to access the novel on her work computer.

Ric Ackart, head of the IT department, suspects she’s slacking off and decides to find out what she does in front of her computer screen all day. His surprise at what takes up her time is overshadowed by the fact that the novel’s leading man shares his face and the name he used years ago..

Now Ric is forced to come to terms with his feelings for her―but Lexi isn’t willing to share more than her body…

About the Author:

SotiaSotia cries at sappy movies and wishes she could take in all the stray dogs in the world. She lives in Athens, Greece, with her husband, their son, and their two rescue dogs—one of which might be part-pony.

Her genres of choice are romances with a twist and urban fantasy novels, always with vivid erotic elements. Her characters aren’t exactly hero-material at first glance; she likes making them fight for their happiness. Still, the romantic in her can’t resist happy endings.
