Taking a look at the Dark Side

Obsession - blog tour banner final

Today is launch day for my latest novel, Obsession, the first in the Talisman series. Obsession is a dark contemporary romance with a thread of paranormal woven through it, and this post kicks off the start of my blog tour. My posts over the next two weeks will all feature dark personality traits, all of which are visible in Obsession.

Have you ever envied a friend of colleague for their vibrant personality? Their ability to talk to anyone, to be the life and soul of the party? I’m usually the quiet one lurking at the back of the room, clutching a glass of wine and hoping to see someone I know. I’ve lost count of the number of business conferences where I end up chatting to a total stranger, with whom I have nothing in common, just so that I don’t stand there like a Billy-No-Mates.

Even standing in quiet almost-chat is better than standing there alone. With my luck though, the conversation usually runs something like this:

10246701_sMe: Hi, my name’s Sofia and I’m with blah blah and blah. Who do you work for?

Him / Her: I’m with blah& blah (a company I’ve never heard of)

Me: Oh, right. What do you do there?

Him / Her: I work in IT /Accounts / HR

We’ll nod at each other, comment on the speakers and agree that we enjoyed the lunch buffet. Annnd… that’s where it usually grinds to a halt and I stare longingly at the people on the other side of the room who are clearly enjoying the gathering.

Chances are your exuberant friend might just be hiding their own shyness under a layer of false confidence, or in the extreme, suffering from bi-polar disorder. It took a long time for me to figure out that just because someone is bright and bubbly on the outside, they weren’t like that on the inside.

In Obsession, Gabe and Suki (despite being together for over ten years) both hide facets of their personalities…

“People sometimes ask me if your marriage is as perfect as it looks.” I met Katy’s concerned gaze. “I always tell them, ‘Yes, Suki has the dream husband.’” She hesitated, and then spoke in a rush. “I know Gabe can be difficult. You are happy, aren’t you?”

“We’ve been married for ten years, Katy.” I don’t know if I love him anymore. “What can I say?” I’m scared my life is falling apart. “We’re good.” I don’t know if I can go on like this.

No matter what doubts I had in private, I wasn’t going to let Gabe down when it came to this photo shoot. Not when he’d waited so long for this shining moment.

Britain’s latest golden couple.

I’d make it look perfect if it bloody killed me.

So what part of your inner psyche do you keep hidden from public view? Go on… you can share it here. Leave me a comment and you’ll go into a draw to win a copy of Obsession.

Josh Delaney is the ideal honey trap.

His charm and model good looks would be enough for most women, but coupled with his psychic ability to read their thoughts, he’s impossible to resist. Suspicious husbands employ him to test their wives, to see if they can be tempted to stray.

High profile couple Suki and Gabe Bridgewater have the perfect marriage, or at least, that’s the image they portray to the world. Behind closed doors, Gabe’s dominance in the marriage is unravelling and he decides to test Suki, using Josh as bait.

For Josh it should be just another easy job, but two things go horribly wrong.

One, Josh falls in love with Suki.

And two, Gabe refuses to let her go.
