Lockdown Larder – Day 19 (Monday)

When you want a takeaway for dinner but everywhere is closed…

If today was a normal day. I’d have called it a takeaway night. You know when you’ve had enough of cooking elaborate food and just want to eat something? That was tonight. There was no outstanding reason. I didn’t sleep well last night, which may have been a factor, but I can’t claim to have done anything amazing today. Mostly I read, or surfed the web, or thought about food. I did make a huge pan of minestrone soup for lunch, so today wasn’t a complete culinary wasteland.

Dinner was “instant” curry (using leftover roast chicken), with microwave rice, and poppadums. They were the most challenging part of the dinner prep, as in, not much 😊 I buy my poppadums from an Indian spice shop. They are thinner and smaller than the ones from the supermarket, and taste infinitely better.

From start to eating took around 15 minutes. Just what I needed.

Normal service to resume tomorrow…

Anyone else have to check their phone in the morning, just to see what day it is?

New Zealand is under Lockdown for at least four weeks. This blog intends to avoid the bad news about rising numbers of victims. It focuses instead on food, and the challenges of cooking fresh meals every day – with the ingredients from my larder. A much nicer message 😊
