Steak & Garlic Mushroom Pie with Tri-Colour Mash
After yesterday’s fry-fest, I wanted veggies tonight. We’re running low on fresh veg though, so I had to use what was left.
I found a family-sized steak & garlic mushroom pie in the freezer, and we had that with what I proudly call tri-colour mash. Mashed potatoes, with a knob of butter and a generous splash of milk, but then I mixed in a grated raw carrot, and a pile of grated raw broccoli (4 – 5 florets). Alas, I don’t have a picture of the finished dish, but it was good! I also cooked some frozen peas, my go-to veg when I have nothing else to offer.

Today I was thinking longingly about the Mango Chicken curry from our local Indian takeaway, and I’m going to try to recreate it at the weekend – if I can buy some mango. It doesn’t need to be fresh. Canned or even frozen would work just fine. Watch this space!
New Zealand is under Lockdown for at least four weeks. This blog intends to avoid the bad news about rising numbers of victims. It focuses instead on food, and the challenges of cooking fresh meals every day – with the ingredients from my larder. A much nicer message 😊
