Bret & CC – Interlude with a Tiger

Bret pinned her to the rug, caged her with his body as she continued to pretend indifference. How she managed to even remotely convey that notion while lying naked beneath him was a mystery—an insulting one, but a mystery nonetheless.

“You can’t deny you want me.” His husky tone belied the lust he struggled to tamp down.

“I don’t know you.” She looked away even as she arched in to him.

“You were naked in my bed when I got home. Does it really matter if you know me?” He stared at her soft pouty lips and ached to taste them.

“I was expecting Jonathan. It’s not my fault he sublet his place to you.”

“No, it’s my good fortune.” He smiled and tried to hide the feral nature of the raw need that pressed against his outer shell of skin. He’d hunted all night, despite the July heat, for a morsel to quench his lust. Little did he know the perfect woman had lain in his bed waiting for him. Well, not him precisely, but still she’d lain in his bed and waited.

“Please, don’t do this.” Her soft plea shriveled his flaring desire and made him want to pound his fist into the floor.

He drew in a whiff of her human scent and let it seep into his senses. Something about her was driving him wild. Made it damn hard to pull away like he knew he should. He hovered over her and wrestled with his inner beast. “At least tell me your name.”

“No.” She pressed against his chest.

“Woman, you are playing with fire. I’m hanging on by a thread.” His body shook with his restraint.

Her glance shot to his face as her eyes widened in fear and, if he wasn’t mistaken, arousal. “I don’t want this. I don’t want you.”

“Are you trying to convince me or yourself?” He pushed up to his knees and watched her sit up while covering her breasts as best she could. Was he truly going to let her slip away? Not likely, but she clearly wasn’t ready to give in to her baser needs. Her body screamed yes, but her head was still in control.

She stood up and stepped toward her clothes that lay neatly on a chair by the bed. “It doesn’t matter. This isn’t happening. Tell Jonathan—” she hesitated. “Tell him CC is looking for him. He’ll know where to find me.”

She slipped her old, soft, and damn near transparent t-shirt on and then a worn pair of jeans that looked more like a second skin. Bret wanted to shred her clothes and have his way, have his tiger’s way. But he knew it wasn’t happening—yet. Tomorrow was another day.
