Laura Kaye – Cover Reveal – HARD AS YOU CAN

I love taking part in cover reveals, especially for my favourite authors, and I’m thrilled to be able to show you the newest cover for Laura Kaye. Ta dah!!

Avon is proud to announce the publication of  Laura Kaye’s second book in her hot Hard Ink series, HARD AS YOU CAN (On Sale: February 25, 2014).

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn’t want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can-and never let go.

Day 4 – July Fever – Laura Kaye

I’m a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s work and I’m super excited to welcome her to July Fever. Excuse me one moment while I run around and squeeeeee in delight * grin *

I asked her for a quote to conjure up July Fever and she said:

“Just the smell of summer can make me fall in love:)

Kinda appropriate since I fell in love with my husband during one of the most fun summers of my life :)”

For a bit of fun, Laura’s provided a suitably feverish image and would like YOU to come up with a caption. Every who leaves a comment or a caption will go into a draw to win a copy of Laura’s latest book, South of Surrender. I’ve read it and it’s an enticing and enthralling read 🙂

So heres the picture:

To whet your appetite, here’s an excerpt from South of Surrender:

“Stop it, Laney. Just stop.” He hated the gruffness of his words, but couldn’t control it.

Her jaw dropped open. “What?”

“Stop…”He tugged his fingers through his wet hair. Tempting me to give in. Tormenting me with things I can never have but want so desperately I can’t breathe. Desire and regret lodged a knot in his throat.

A range of emotions played over her face. Hurt. Rejection. Anger.

Laney pushed into the center of the pool. He sat up straight in his seat, his back coming hard against the tub’s side. “What do you want me to stop doing, Chrysander? Huh?” She waded closer and stopped right in front of him. “Do you want me to stop caring? Do you want me to stop worrying about you when, for the third time since we’ve met, your brother has tried to kill you? And nearly succeeded? Do you want me to stop thinking about making love with you? About how good you felt inside me?”

Stop,”he said again, bracing his hands against the walls to restrain the urges her words were letting loose, heartfelt urges that warred with every bit of his common sense.

She pushed closer, her legs skimming the insides of his spread thighs. “I can’t stop. I wouldn’t want to even if I could. I lo—”

He lunged for her and claimed her in a devouring, soul-stirring kiss. He knew what was about to come out of her mouth, because she was wearing the emotion on her face, in her eyes. He just couldn’t hear it. He wasn’t ready for it. He might never be ready for it because he wanted to hear the words so damn bad.

Laney moaned into the kiss. Cradling her face, he drew her in closer, plundered her mouth thoroughly and deeply with his tongue. He poured every bit of suppressed longing into the kiss until she was swaying, jostled by the flowing, bubbling water. She stumbled and threw her arms out for balance. But what she didn’t do was try to touch him.

As if he didn’t already care more than he should, at that moment he felt what only could be called love for Laney Summerlyn.

She’s the only one who can see through his golden boy façade to the broken god within…

south of surrenderChrysander Notos, Supreme God of the South Wind and Summer, is on a mission: save Eurus from his death sentence and prove his troubled brother can be redeemed. A Story of the Vampire Warrior Kings

I’m super excited to take part in Laura Kaye’s cover reveal for her forthcoming Vampire King novel, Taken By The Vampire King. You’ll have to wait a second while I squeeeeeeeee in delight * grin *

Photographer Kaira Sorenson’s life takes a nightmare turn when she’s attacked by blood-thirsty creatures—and saved by a vampire. Henrik’s back slammed against a brick wall, the darkness of the narrow alley sheltering their trio from the tourists thronging Tromsø’s streets.

Lars stood at the entrance, making sure no one developed an unhealthy curiosity.

Jakob got right up in Henrik’s face, forearm pressing into the king’s chest. “What happened?”

He shook his head, swallowing thickly, his hunger burning so intensely it was almost a living thing within him. “Wanted her,” he rasped. It hadn’t been a decision. There wasn’t anything rational or conscious about it. From the first moment she’d approached him, he was awash in her appealing scent, like the smoky berries of a vintage wine or the rich bite of an aged, dignified whiskey.

“Wanted her how?”

“I wanted her.” He knocked his head against the brick. Even now, he couldn’t shake the image of the vein’s rhythmic dance along her slender neck or of the luscious dip of her cleavage, both displayed so invitingly by her upswept hair. His fangs throbbed with a want and a need he couldn’t remember feeling in ages. Not to mention the aching hard-on between his legs.

“Straight out no-shit bloodlust?” Something like hope sounded in the warrior’s deep voice.

“Ja.” Henrik heaved a deep breath of cold January air as his imagination unhelpfully replayed how it would’ve gone down. Tearing the gown from her trim body. Holding her curves in his hands. Bearing her up against the wall. Sinking his fangs and his cock in deep until every dark, needy part of him was sated.

“I’ll get her.” Jakob turned away.

The king slammed his hand down on his brother’s shoulder and gripped hard. “Nei.”

“You want her. You need her.”

“I’ll kill her.”

Because he wouldn’t be able to stop.

Once he got a taste, something base and instinctual told him he wouldn’t be able to make himself stop. He’d been so close to the edge of his restraint in the gallery. Only the sound of her voice had pulled him back from the brink.

All he’d wanted was a night out of their mountain citadel, away from the looming promise of death. He thought the jovial atmosphere of the festival would distract him from all that was to come. Instead, it had thrown it right in his face. Christ, he was a catastrophe waiting to happen, already more beast than man. He shook his head again. “I’ll fucking kill her,” he rasped.

“You won’t.”

Acid washed through his gut. “You willing to risk an innocent woman’s life—or her soul—to see which of us is right? I’m not.” He shuddered, the danger of becoming like his evil enemies one of his greatest fears. “Leave her be. I’ll not have it any other way.”

Book Review – Laura Kaye – Her Forbidden Hero

Laura Kaye is pretty much an Auto-Read for me, but there’s always that moment of anxiety. Will it meet my expectations? Or has she peaked and will I now feel muted disappointed? It’s a bit like opening the massive wrapped present under the Christmas tree… can it really be as good as I hope?
Her Forbidden Hero would be jumping right into some of my favourites tropes: ex-forces, tortured hero, best-friend’s-little-sister, PTSD…Yes! Thank God. It was Brilliant! I even messaged the author and apologised for going all fan-girly on her, but I wanted to Squeeeeeeeee!* deep breath *

Okay, with the gushing out of the way, here’s the review * grin *

Marco Vieri has been invalided out of the Special Forces, and feels guilt along with an unhealthy dose of PTSD. He’s trying very hard to re-make his life, working in a busy and noisy rock bar, when who should walk in but Alyssa Scott. His best-friend’s little sister, all grown up and gorgeous. He hasn’t seen her for nearly 2 years, not since he was wounded (and nearly died) in action.
She sees his scarred arm for the first time: Before her eyes, his grin and the happiness she’d seen in his eyes melted into discomfort so thick, it choked the air around them. Marco’s jaw ticked, telling her he felt it too. “So… what are you doing here?”

He’s horrified when she tells him she’s come for a job interview – even more so, when she gets the job. He’s always loved her – as a sister – but now he sees her for the woman she’s become.
He couldn’t decide which was worse: the raging hard-on he’d had half the night over the image of Alyssa bent over the hood of his car or the soul-stealing nightmares of the disaster that had left him less than a whole man. Both left his body aching. Both made it impossible to sleep worth a shit.

Marco is screwed. He can’t justify coming on to Alyssa, but he can’t stand to see her being chatted up by the other staff. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the longer they work together, the harder it’s going to be.
After all, he’d been in the United States Army Special Forces, fuck you very much. You might take the man out of the SF, but you couldn’t take the SF out of the man. He’d been up against some of the world’s meanest and toughest. So, goddamn straight he could work his way around one young woman. Right?

This is the delicious and captivating story of Marco learning to allow himself to love the one person who should be off limits, and Alyssa not allowing him to hide any more.
Ever since Alyssa had cornered him in the hallway, peered up at him with those imploring brown eyes, and cupped his face in her hand, Marco had felt raw and exposed, like his skin no longer protected his insides.

The secondary characters were honest and believable, from the other members of the staff, to Brady, Alyssa’s brother. I was thrilled to learn that Brady’s story comes next in this series 🙂

Her Forbidden Hero was hot, sweet, moving and emotional. Angsty in places, with little flashes of humour, and as close to perfection for this genre as it’s possible to get. A glorious, glowing 5 star read 🙂 Thank you Laura Kaye 🙂

I found a fabuous page on GoodReads, where Laura Kaye chooses the 5-words that describe Marco Vieri – check it out:
